Former London hard man and old-school gangland legend Billy Blundell passed away on Thursday 27 August, 2020, at the age of 77. The news was broken on social media by his son, Billy Blundell Jnr, who posted a message on his Facebook page informing everyone of the sad news.
”Sadly fb is the best way to notify friends that today my Dad the legend that is Billy Blundell has passed away. Bless you Dad.xx”
This gave rise to a large outpouring of condolences and tributes on Facebook from friends and well wishers.
Billy Blundell, along with his brother, Eddie, built up several successful businesses, including a lucrative ice cream trade. They had a fleet of vans serving various tourist spots in and around the London area. During the ice cream turf wars, the brothers shot and killed three members of a rival gang out in the open on Ilford High Street in East London. Billy was charged with attempted murder, but a jury cleared him and concluded he acted in self defence.
The Blundell brothers had many other business activities, though most were rooted in the criminal underworld. They spoke openly of their criminal involvement and hard men reputation, but also acquired a legendary status – almost akin to folk heroes.
The cause of death has yet to be confirmed.
