Scarface is a 1983 remake of a 1932 movie. It follows the story of a Cuban refugee, Tony Montana (played by Al Pacino), as he arrives in Miami, Florida, with nothing to his name, and quickly ascends to become an all-powerful drug lord.
The movie is directed by Brian De Palma, and as well as Al Pacino in the starring role, also features Steven Bauer, Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert Loggia. In my opinion, this is one of the defining roles of Pacino’s career, and he plays it exquisitely!
The movie had a limited budget of just $13 million to begin with, but by the the time it was finished in the summer of 1983, that figure had risen to a grand total of $37 million. It earned $66 million worldwide at the box office, after it was released in December of 1983.
