El Chapo’s Daughter Marries in Sinaloa

Alejandrina Gisselle Guzmán Salazar, 33, Mexican drug trafficker El Chapo’s eldest daughter, was married in a secretive but lavish ceremony on January 25 in Culiacán, Sinaloa.

Alejandrina and her groom, Édgar Cázares were married at the Catedral Basilica de Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Culiacán, Mexico. The cathedral was cordoned off with yellow tape for the wedding, and nearby streets were reportedly shut down.  From this event alone it’s clear that El Chapo still has a lot of influence in the area.

The wedding was attended by relatives of the bride and groom, along with members of the Sinaloa Cartel. Guests arrived at the cathedral in armored SUVs and luxury vehicles, with armed men guarding the church as the marriage took place. Ovidio Guzmán López, Alejandrina’s half-brother was reported to be in attendance. He was arrested in October, but was very quickly released after cartel gunmen protested his capture in a string of attacks.

Alejandrina’s new husband, Édgar Cázares is no stranger to criminal life. He is reported to have links with Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada, the reputed head of the Sinaloa Cartel through his aunt, Blanca Margarita Cázares Salazar. She was sanctioned by the United States treasury in 2007 for her ‘sophisticated money laundering apparatus‘ and links to Zambada and another cartel figure, Victor Emilio Cazares.

Alejandrina wore a tiara, and walked down the aisle in a glamorous princess-style dress. Reportedly there were several high-profile bands performing, and there was a fireworks display into the night.  One video posted on social media shows El Chapo’s daughter dancing with her new husband to live music at a reception held at a Culiacán venue called Alamo Grande. Another shows her dancing with her mother, Alejandrina Salazar Hernández, who was El Chapo’s first wife.

Alejandrina’s father, Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman is currently serving a life sentence at ADX Florence, a Supermax prison located in Colorado, US.
